Fishfinders

Fishfinder_1 A Fishfinder is an essential piece of kit when boat fishing.

The first useful thing it does is give you your depth, this is very handy when working inshore for obvious reasons. It can also help fing sandbanks and wrecks.

A fishfinder will aslo help identify different types of sea floor such as rocky or sandy marks and wrecks.

Also sea temperature is a useful feature.

Fishfinders also show fish although this is rarely the best information it gives!

Mackerel

11sep05_023Mackerel are found in great numbers in UK waters in the summer months. We were still catching them in late September in Wales and some of them were huge!

They can be caught on just about any feather lure and they even take whole sandeels when we are fishing for bass as the picture shows!

They are related to tuna so large ones will give a really good fight!

Mackerel are very tasty to eat and also make good bait.

The british record for a Mackerel is around 6lb 2oz which was caught in Cornwall in 1984, at over 6lb thats one large fish! The biggest we have ever caught is about 1lb.
